This is incredible Dave. I’d get married all over again just to have you shoot our wedding and take us on these adventures. You’re really ridiculously good at what you do.

Bio Photo.jpg

My name is Dave Janzen and I want to say welcome here and thank you for checking out my work. I’m based as a Thunder Bay wedding photographer but am ready to travel anywhere a wedding may call me.

I grew up in Winnipeg, MB Canada with a father who was a full time photographer. Even though I spent most of my life being around photography in one way or another, it wasn’t until I was married and became a Papa (what my kids call me) that capturing fleeting moments and memories of my family hit me on a deeper level. I realized that I loved documenting experiences.

Being able to capture fleeting moments and experiences for couples, brings me great joy and I feel very blessed and honoured when a couple allows me to be a part of their monumental day.

One of my other great loves is adventuring! Spending my free time exploring the great outdoors has become one of my favourite things to do. I love getting into the car, with no time table, and with my only focus being to adventure and explore. My greatest joy as a photographer is when I get to merge my love for adventuring and documenting experiences for others, together. Getting to skip town to explore/adventure with my clients has become one of my greatest passions, as an artist.

Regardless if it’s in the studio or out on location somewhere, my focus and goals are the same, that the clients I get to work with know how much they are cared for. They are my priority and I’m willing to go the extra mile to give them an unforgettable experience. One which goes beyond their photos and they will cherish for years to come.

I absolutely adore these!!

Wedding or Engagement Photo Shoot Locations

Mount Mckay.jpg

Mount Mckay

Mount Mckay is a beautiful destination for engagement photos or wedding photos, just south of Thunder Bay.  Mount Mckay is nearly 1000 feet above Lake Superior, which makes for stunning backdrops once you make your way up the mountain,  There is a great lookout that oversees the harbour but it is not just the great landscapes that make this a great spot for photos.

There are rich green trees that let in a ton of natural sunlight for magnificent shots within the forest. This couple was not scared of a little hike to create a gorgeous setting for some wedding photos, and it paid off as enjoyed the adventure as well as captured some great moments on their special day!

Sleeping Giant Provincial Park.jpg

Sleeping Giant Provincial Park

Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is a huge 244 square kilometer park located east of Thunder Bay. It is made up of cliffs, and valleys and of course the mesa-cuestas which makes up the “Sleeping Giant” formation.  Such a big park the opportunities are endless when you bring a camera. There are so many contrasts in colours, that make it easy to find a beautiful shot almost anywhere in the park.

I was able to capture this lone moment with the bride. Her white dress covered partially by her cream scarf, and looking over at the beautiful landscape.  A stunning photo; however easy to create with the many places to go within the park. This is definitely a top spot when choosing where to find engagement or ‘Day After’ photography locations.

Silver Falls Provincial Park.jpg

Silver Falls Provincial Park

Silver Falls Provincial Park is just west of Thunder Bay. A little but of a drive, but can definitely be worth it. This location is filled with rustic spots to capture that rural, natural photo. Just like this one I shot with this couple, where we turned a few large boulders into a romantic bench. There are many spots like this in this location, as well as a short hike to actually enter into the Silver Falls. If you are feeling adventurous, take a dive in at the end of our shoot. In the past when we have had some brave couples it has made for some extremely fun photos in the water!
